National Tree Week, brought to you by The Tree Council and partners, brings together the conservation sector, volunteers and tree-lovers to mark the start of the annual tree planting season by planting thousands of trees and hedgerows and celebrating these magnificent mainstays of our landscapes.
National Tree Week 2024 takes place between 23 November – 1 December.
We, as growers know too well, the benefits of planting a tree to help the planet. As allotment growers we mostly favour those that bear fruit, such as apple trees, pear trees and other fruits and berries. As well as fruit bearing trees, we sometimes like trees or hedgerows to provide a border to our plot or garden, which also provides a home to a variety of wildlife species; helping with biodiversity and is also an added visual attraction. Trees also provide shade and shelter for plants at ground level that do not like the full sun. Then of course, we like ornamental trees including those you can plant in pots to grow indoors.
