Potato House, well known for our heritage and colourful seed potatoes, is proud to sponsor Grow Your Own Potatoes, a hands-on project for nurseries and primary schools in the UK. We’re committed to getting the next generation growing, connecting children with real food — and it’s FREE for teachers.
Why potatoes?
Potatoes are easy, reliable, and fun. Plant them, care for them, dig them up — and then enjoy the results. Few crops teach so clearly where food comes from.
What children learn
The project naturally covers:
· Science: plant growth, soil, weather
· Food education: where food comes from
· Maths: counting, measuring, comparing
· Responsibility: caring for something over time
…and most importantly, it gets children moving outdoors.
Who can take part
This project is for nurseries and primary schools only.
If you’re a parent or carer, please tell your school — a quick nudge helps teachers get involved. Please pass this on to your school or nursery and encourage them to register.
What schools receive
Teachers get full support from Grow Your Own Potatoes to run a simple, successful project. Schools receive seed potatoes, and access to lots of resources (experiments, activities, and more) online, whether using beds, containers, or grow bags. No specialist knowledge is needed.
Register by end of January
Participation is FREE, but teachers must register by the end of January. Spaces are limited, don’t wait.
Let’s get growing
Children don’t need more screen time. They need fresh air, soil on their hands, and the pride of growing something themselves.
Give children the joy of fresh air, hands in soil, and the pride of growing their own food. Potatoes are the perfect place to start. 🥔🌱 PS: We’re always on the lookout for sponsors - you don’t have to be a potato company! Contributions help with graphic design, admin, and postage, keeping this project free for schools. Can you help?
