The grass cuttings are coming in thick and fast . How I deal with it, is to mix in about a third of last autumn’s leaves.
First stage I leave in the dumpy bags 24-48 hrs. It starts to heat
Second stage tip out the dumpy bags, fluff it up and mix with about a third autumn leaves in an open heap. Turn it after a couple of days
Third stage put into plastic composters
Fourth stage after about 3-4 days in the plastic composters the volume will of halved. Then lift the bins off and turn two bins into one . After this stage I leave for about a week. It’s then put into a compost bay , which won’t get touched again until autumn when it will be spread on the no dig beds .
It sounds like a lot of work but its not really once you get the system going. If . large volumes of grass get put straight in to plastic bins you will end up with a wet slimy mess . Grass cuttings are best composted in open heaps. I use the bins only to speed things up.
