Our recipe section has a range of home-style cooking and meal ideas to use those delicious organic vegetables you have worked so hard to grow. Now time to reap the benefits!

You can of course, use our recipes as a guide and tweak them to suit your own tastes. They are in the main, written by somebody who loves food and doesn't measure anything so we hope you enjoy our 'rustic' take on the selection of dishes here.  We have recipes by vegetable, fruit, nuts or herbs and soups, which are extremely versatile as well as some fabulous and inspiring Canning & Preserving recipes and information from our lovely friend at LoveJars - Rosie.

Homemade Mince Pie Mincemeat

Mince Pie Mincemeat for a festive homemade sweet treat

Ingredients

Try and prepare well in advance of Christmas and making your mince pies for a fuller flavour, these quantities will make approx 1kg and you can adapt to your own tastes and requirements.

  • 125g Raisins
  • 50ml Brandy
  • 185g Currants
  • 150g Shredded suet
  • 40g Mixed peel
  • 1 large Brambley Apple, peeled and chopped finely/grated
  • 125g Brown sugar
  • 1 Lemon for zest and juice
  • Grated nutmeg or ground nutmeg

Please note that our recipes are an approximate guideline - Quantities along with ingredients are totally adaptable to suit personal taste, consistency and density as well as portion sizes.

Method

Soak all of the fruit in brandy and lemon juice until it's nice and plumped up, then drain and set aside the liquid.

Mix all of your ingredients really well, adding the brandy last and mixing in thoroughly.

Store in sterilised jars and cover.  Refridgerate for as long as possible; a maximum of 6 months and a minimum of 1-2 weeks if you have the time for best results.

Tip: Let your festive creativity flow with your own twist! Maybe try Baileys or Cinnamon!
